Sambic brings the hot rhythms of Brazil to Finland!
Taina Kanerva developed in the early 90’s a new fitness product called Sambic® that bases on Brazilian dances and is directed to Finnish audience. The Finns had danced samba before but it wasn’t until Kanerva trained her first Sambic® instructors that the dance and culture spread all over Finland to even as far as Lapland.
SAMBIC - classes, intensive courses, instructor training and videos
Sambic has different kinds of courses around Finland e.g. normal weekly classes on all levels, dance workshops, special workshops and instructor training. The joyous and brisk classes have inspired and activated students for years. “It feels great when people say for instance that they want to enrol for the Monday “party” class in Tikkurila. Could a person enjoy more of an exercise” says Taina and gives a laugh. “I am so content that the success story of Finnish invention Sambic continues and each season we can offer something new to our students.
Our students from all over Finland have participated the Helsinki Samba Carnival seven years in row side by side with the Finnish samba schools. This event has be come the annual gathering of all Sambic students and their instructors. Imagine the variety of names made for the steps used all over Finland. Even the name for hip varies from town to town.
Sambic - shows
The street carnivals at different places, carnival events in different schools around Helsinki and entrepreneur events are just an example of what we do. In addition to these Taina has been producing and developing Sambic’s own show. SIMSAM -show takes children and adults to the world of round object balls, hoola-hoops spiced with circus acts and Brazilian rhythms.
Sambic also arranges the annual student show where different Sambic groups show their skills. The greatest pride of the show however is the genuine joy for dancing that show from the faces of women and children of different ages not to mention the impressive performance of Sambic’s own Alegria performing group. Basic information
Taina Kanerva, entrepreneur, dance-pedagogue, dancer, choreographer, videos/producer and founder of the performing group Alegria. Taina is the only fulltime samba instructor in Finland. (Approve as teacher by Dance pedagogue Union of Finland in 1997). Danced samba since 1989. Previously danced e.g. jazz-ballet

Sambic® company has taught and trained adults, children, mentally defective people, old people, group of men, different sports teams, student groups, pregnant women and own instructors for over 15 year. Taina has kept workshops also in Kuopio International Dance and Music Festival (Kuopio tanssii ja soi) during summers 2004 and 1998 and she has been instructing groups in various large fitness events around Finland. Taina has had Sambic®, Samkid® and Tule´s Samba® fitness product presentations in several Fitness programs in TV also. Her Alegria group has taken part in the Beijing International Travel and Tourism festival in 2000. In 2005 Taina presented Sambic® in a French gym chain in Paris and in December 2005 Sambic and Alegria group had shows in India.
Taina emphasizes clear choreographies, the joy of dancing and the personal style of dance each student has in her Sambic® lessons. “Everyone can be the queen of their own lives!”
